This site documents the ongoing process of artists & designers striving to merge an art form with an urban functionality. The members & neighbors of The Simple Way Community’s Potter Street House in Kensington Philadelphia are in need of fences for an abandoned lot turned urban garden and a back alley that’s the scene for some less-than-ideal activity in this inner-city neighborhood. Our job is to present a dual message of struggle and of hope through an everyday functional object. The Guns to Plowshares project hopes to do just that: drawing inspiration from artists all over the world to weld dreams, ideals and aspirations together to create art that serves a specific purpose and communicates a specific message of transformation through the struggle for peace.
